An air source heat pump (ASHP) is an effective energy saving heating solution for your home no matter the climate. This environmentally friendly option extracts the solar energy that is stored in the air and converts is into heat energy, providing heating and hot water for your home.
Air source heat pumps are considered to be one of the most efficient and affordable heating solutions in the UK, and as a result, they are expected to play a crucial part in the UK’s goal to achieve Net Zero by the year 2050.
Air source heat pumps (ASHP’s) are low carbon heating systems that takes ambient air and boosts it to a higher temperature using a compressor. It then transfers the heat to the heating system in your home. Think of it like a fridge in reverse
Air is drawn into the unit from the outside.
The air passes over a network of tubes filled with refrigerant —
a liquid with a very low evaporation point.
The refrigerant warms up and turns from a liquid into a gas.
The hot gas now goes into a heat exchanger surrounded by water. The heat is transferred from the gas to the water which is used to warm the radiators or underfloor heating in your home.
Meanwhile, the refrigerant condenses back into a liquid and returns to the start of the cycle.
Efficiency is a measure of the amount of energy a device delivers to your home compared to the amount of energy it consumes. The most efficiency heating systems deliver many times over the amount of energy they consume.
Furnaces and boilers generate energy from burning fossil fuels with an efficiency that ranges between 78-98%. A heat pump, on the other hand, can deliver 3 to 4 kilowatts (kW) of heat for every 1kW of electricity it consumes, delivering up to 400% of energy. They use electricity instead of fossil fuels making at a more environmentally friendly alternative with the added bonus of high efficiency.
Heat pumps are more efficient than other electrical heating systems as they can run on 70% less electricity. Instead of generating heat, they absorb heat from the air outside to deliver it to the house.
All of our air source heat pumps come with a 7 year manufacturers warranty as standard. However for the warranty to be valid, your air source heat pump needs to have an annual service for every year of the warranty. We offer our own service plans for our customers for just £25 a month which include an annual service and protection from any problem that may arise.
The latest government grants can cover energy saving measures up to a cost of £45,000 to treat your property and reduce your energy consumption. It’s easy to apply if you receive qualifying benefits, but you may be eligible to receive help even if you don’t.
Air source heat pumps are a form of low carbon heating, as they use the outside air to heat or cool your home and have a high energy efficiency rate, it makes them a far better alternative to cut emissions.
Our air source heat pumps can work in temperature as low as -25°C so you can be confident that your heat pump won't freeze over.
The heat pumps that we use are some of the quietest on the market, meaning they can be easily installed in any household without disrupting anyone.
Heat pumps are a source of green clean energy that is sustainable and renewable, with low or no CO2 emissions.
